The population of Strathroy-Caradoc has continued to grow thoughout the last 25 years. Despite the apparent slowing from 2011 to 2016, the most recent 2017 and 2018 population projections show that 2016 is an outlier and misrepresents the current growth in the municipal population. LABOUR FORCE
Strathroy-Caradoc has a strong labour force. Our unemployment rate is lower than the provincial and national average, as well as the closest census metropolitan area - London, Ontario - which has an unemployment rate of 7.3%. Most importantly, the participation rate of Strathroy-Caradoc (66.1) is higher than the regions of London (63.8), Ontairo (64.7) and Canada (65.2) . Put differently, more eligible residents of Strathroy-Caradoc are participating in the labour force, and of those participating, a larger percent are able to find work.
Within the local economy, the major industries of employment are Manufacturing and Health Care, likely driven by the many large businesses in our industrial parks and the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital.

BUSINESS SECTOR
When breaking down the local business ecosystem by number of businesses, ignoring number of employees, the top three sectors are:
- Real Estate and Rental and Leasing
- Construction
- Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting
Of these three, the majority of the businesses are operated by a self-employed individual, with Real Estate / Rental / Leasing having the greatest concentration.
Self-employed individuals make up 69% of the total businesses in Strathroy-Caradoc.
Regarding larger businesses, the Manufacturing sector is the largest sector with a greater percentage of businesses having employees versus being self-employed. Of the 15 companies with over 100 employees, 5 of them (or 33%) are within Manufacturing.
